For many shoppers, it seemed like a good idea. Spend a certain amount on groceries, and save 10 cents per gallon at the pump. But now a judge has said the poplular promotion for King Soopers is illegal, and Safeway is reacting as well.
Two gas-station owners on the Western slope sued King Soopers because they claimed the grocery store set its gas prices too low. The promotion was ruled illegal by the judge who said because the store was selling gas below cost, the promotion violated the Unfair Practices Act.
