Many people traveled from the southeast part of the state Wednesday night to make their case. They are concerned about a possible land take over that would force them out.

8,500 more troops will soon be calling Fort Carson home. They'll be coming here because of a realignment of forces and the army says they are going to need to expand.

The expansion proposals are for both Fort Carson and Pinon Canyon... But it's Pinon Canyon that most are very upset about.

“We're not anti-military were not against the army but they should be able to expand without destroying southeastern Colorado, said resident Lon Robertson.

And 12 students from Kim High School near La Veta came because they're afraid they could lose the land their families have owned for generations.

The army says the expansion is only a proposal and they have no solid plans to expand Pinon canyon.

But most residents feel the expansion is inevitable and their land is already gone.

Fort Carson has two more meetings planned in the next couple of months…one in Trinidad and the other in La Junta.
