State Redistricting Map Tossed Out

The Colorado Supreme Court has thrown out the state's new congressional districts, calling the Republican-drawn map unconstitutional.

The high court ruled 5-to-2 that lawmakers can redraw the maps only after each census and before the ensuing general election. Justices said that because the General Assembly failed to redistrict during the current constitutional window, the Legislature relinquished its authority to redistrict until after the 2010 census.

The ruling means Colorado's seven congressional districts revert to boundaries drawn up by a Denver judge last year after lawmakers
failed to agree.
