Governor Ritter Signs New Bills Into Law

I am so thankful to see more being done for cyclists! Having lost someone very close to me in august after being hit by a driver, it feels like a step towards progress is taking place!

I don't believe bicyclists should have more rights then motor-powered vehicles. I believe while we should share the road, they should not abuse the priveledge. I believe that the laws that are currently in place are not being enforced because police appear to believe its a grand joke. That having been said; I have written a letter to Governor Ritter requesting that he ensure bicyclists are registered as any vehicle; whether it be motor-cycle, trailer, truck, etc..., I have pointed out that given the circumstances it holds bicyclists accountable and they do not escape responsibility for the actions, or reactions in situations that they inadvertantly cause. They can cause an accident and leave the scene free of any rammifcations of their actions. I propose that they be responsible for the issues/accidents that a select few irresponsible riders cause. Additionaly; I pointed out that the increased revenue from licensing bicycles would help with the budget. With repair to terrible roads, and various other projects. As for those who believe that paying taxes on their car through registration is enough; its not. Lets take a look at this, technically you're operating 2 vehicles on the roads. Therefore you should pay for the priveledge to operate both vehicles on the roadways. If you own a car and an SUV, you get taxed on both vehicles. This is treating all people operating any type of conveyance on any public roadway equally.

If cyclists and motorists would use common sense then we would not have to have laws to protect one another. I have no problem givng a cyclist at least 3 feet of room when I am passing them but I would ask that they follow the rules of the road and stay to the right as far as possible, now that is nothing new and is printed in several driving manuals to include Colorado. So lets not complain becuase obviously people have been trying to run cyclists off the road or have been throwing gosh knows what out the windows. So certain people have brought these new laws down on themselves for acting childish and in a menacing manner. And there were other Bills signed into law that benifits a lot of people in the state of Colorado. So I do not think our Governor was sitting out all day on a tarmac wasting our tax dollars unless you were riding your bicycle out near the Airport and saw this?? And if so be careful wouldnt want his motorcade to run you over. We kid!

Geez- what a couple of kurmudgeons. You get the feeling these guys would criticize anything the governor did. No fun being bitter... Three cheers for bicycle safety!!!

Did the governor FLY down from Denver in a huge jet sitting out on the tarmac all day? What a waste of taxpayer money!

colorado spends millions of dollars building a very elaborate trail system and yet we now have to yield for bicycles in the road. i think i'm going to staet driving on the bike trails.

While the state is fighting an ecenomic downturn, and cities are fighting crime our govenor has decided the best use of his time is to sign a bill that keeps cyclists safe. As john Stossel would say "give me a break" This is yet another instance of our government waisting time and money. We should be proud.
