Dog Care Taker Denies Allegations Save Email Print

An Ellicott man who cares for abandoned greyhounds is under fire.
Richard Favreau has been fined by the Arizona Department of Racing. And his racing license has even been suspended. But he claims, he's done nothing wrong.

He told 11 news the allegations are false. And all he's done, is what's right for the dogs.

Richard Favreau has cared for dogs all his life. Now he finds himself at the center of an investigation into the well being of at least 150 greyhounds. "It's really frustrated because it's a
bunch of allegations that aren't true," said Richard Favreau. Over the past year and a half ... Favreau had been working with the Tucson Greyhound Park returning abandoned dogs to the owners when their racing careers were over. "Some of them were my own dogs. The rest of the majority of owners were contacted and returned to them or they were petted out to adoption agencies depending on what the owner wanted," said Favreau. Susan Netboy with the Greyhound Protection League says Favreau violated their agreement. She says he was supposed to give all the dogs to adoption groups so they could become family pets.
"I'm hopeful the dogs are alive and well somewhere. He needs to tell racing authorities where they are, so they can be put into pet homes," said Netboy. 11 News talked with one owner who said Favreau returned all her greyhounds to her alive and well. He says he's done the right thing for all the dogs. And he's getting an attorney to fight the accusations. "It's just not true ... Not true."

Favreau plans to appeal the fine and suspension of his racing license. 11 News tried to contact the General Manager of the Tucson Greyhound Park. But a phone call wasn't returned.
