Donated Blood Recall

The west nile virus has prompted the state's largest blood bank to recall 1,700 units of blood.

Bonfils Blood Center in Denver voluntarily issued the recall for blood donated between June 27th and June 30th. It's a precaution, since west nile virus blood testing didn't start until July 1st.

The blood that hadn't already been used in transfusions has been thrown away.

Two Memorial Hospital patients did receive some of the blood, but neither is showing symptoms of west nile. Pueblo's St. Mary Corwin and Parkview Hospitals also used some of the blood for transfusions, but they are unsure exactly how many and whether there is any sign of west nile in them.
