250 turkeys, a mound of mashed potatoes, and plenty of green beans.
All cooked by soldiers at Fort Carson and served by Salvation Army volunteers at the annual Thanksgiving Community Holiday Dinner.

Volunteers served the hot turkey dinners at 5 locations in the Pikes Peak area.

Fort Carson's Commander, Major General Robert Wilson, helped serve the meals.

He says it's an honor for Fort Carson soldiers to help with the dinner every year.

"This is an opportunity for us to give back to the community. So starting last Sunday, our cooks have been preparing turkeys and food."

Cooks say it took about 25 soldiers and 3 days of cooking 24 hours a day to get ready for the meal.
