Vail Resort Plans Anger Residents

Vail Resorts wants to build a concrete-track alpine slide at its Beaver Creek ski slopes. But convincing residents of the high-priced resort community is proving to be tough sledding.

Among residents fired up about the summer amusement: former president Gerald Ford, a 30-year resident of the mountain community.

The bickering between Vail Resorts and the Beaver Creek Property Owners Association has found its way to county commissioners in Eagle County.

The resort company claims a slide is just another appropriate use for a ski area. But critics, among them the 93-year-old former president, say an alpine slide would turn their picturesque little mountain town into nothing more than an amusement park.
