Soldiers with the Oklahoma National Guard’s 45th Infantry Brigade are getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. On Wednesday, Fort Carson held a farewell ceremony for these soldiers.

The troops have been training at the Mountain Post since the end of September. They'll be securing the borders, patrolling suspected Taliban strongholds, conducting raids, and training the Afghan National Army. About 500 people will deploy with Task Force Phoenix.

In Wednesday's ceremony, Fort Carson's commanding general told the brigade they're the last line of defense to protecting our way of life.

Some of the soldiers will deploy Thursday and the rest will leave this weekend. The commander of the brigade says it will be like nothing these troops have ever seen. They don't know exactly how long they will be gone.

And when these troops actually leave, they'll be given flags that flew outside the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City after the bombing there in 1995.

Three Army Reserve units from Colorado will have to report to their home stations on Dec. 7. The soldiers were notified of their call up to active duty over the weekend, but received their report date Wednesday.

The soldiers from the 793rd Medical Detachment, the 824th Transportation Detachment and the 993rd Medical Detachment will all have to report Dec. 7. They will report to the mobilization station Dec. 10. All three units are from Denver and are being called up to support international military operations. Where they will go isn't being released.
