A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered to determine if a Lamar woman accused of killing her children is competent to stand trial.
District Court Judge Douglas Tallman issued that ruling Wednesday in the case of 32-year-old Rebekah Amaya. She made her second appearance in court on first-degree murder charges Wednesday.
The judge ordered Amaya to return to the state hospital in Pueblo to be evaluated by one or more court-appointed psychiatrists. The scheduling of her preliminary hearing was suspended pending the results of that evaluation.
Amaya is accused of drowning four-year-old Grace Headlee and five-month-old Gabriel Amaya in a bathtub at the family home last month.
Amaya's next court appearance is set for Jan. 27.
