Human West Nile Virus Death

Another Colorado resident has died of the West Nile virus. This, as the state health department is reporting the biggest one-day jump in human cases of the virus this year.

The latest victim, a 79-year-old Fremont County woman died at a Canon City hospital Thursday, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to eight.

In all 638 people have contracted the disease statewide. Of those, 16 are in El Paso County and 54 are in Pueblo County.

Experts want to once again remind resident to wear insect repellant that contains DEET before going outside, especially at dawn and dusk.
