A Fort Carson soldier who was killed in Iraq was remembered on the post Tuesday. Taft V. Williams died Aug. 12 when his convoy hit an explosive device while on the way to the Baghdad airport.
At the time of his death, he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army. At his memorial service, his rank was upgraded to that of a staff sergeant.
SSG Williams served with the Maintenance Troop Support Squadron with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
His wife is a soldier in Fort Carson's 3rd Brigade Combat Team, and also deployed to Iraq. The couple has a 15-month-old son.
