A Fort Carson soldier recieves two of the Army's highest awards nearly a week after his death.
33 year-old Sergeant Ernest Bucklew was on his way home for his mother's funeral last week.
Last Sunday, he and 35 other soldiers were aboard a Chinook helicopter when it was shot down by a shoulder-fired missile near the town of Fallujah.
For his services, Bucklew was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star and was promoted to staff sergeant.
Bucklew's wife, Barbara, received the awards on his behalf.
The ceremony was held simultaneously with his mother's funeral.
