Brian was supposed to arrive in Pueblo on Wednesday. His wedding was scheduled for Friday. But on Sunday, Brian and Johnna Loia's dreams were shattered. Brian was among 36 soldiers on board a Chinook Helicopter, that crashed in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, after being hit by a surface-to-air missile. It wasn't until Monday that Johnna heard the news.
Johnna met Brian just over a year ago. She wears the dog tags Briand had made for her a week after they started dating last year.
"It says Brian loves Johnna and Johnna is terrific. I'll be buried in these."
This is not the first time that Johnna has met with adversity. When she was in 6th grade, she survived a brain tumor.
Johnna says she told Brian she would wait for him forever. She says she plans to keep that promise.
Penisten was with the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Carson.
