An El Paso County man could spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing a Pueblo woman more than a year ago.
District Judge Rosalie Vigna ordered 29-year-old Dwayne Kelly Rogers to serve 54 years in prison for killing the woman in July 2005.
Authorities discovered the body of 20-year-old Stephanie Salazar behind a Pueblo nightclub. She had been strangled.
Rogers apologized to the victim's relatives in court, saying he took full responsibility for what the crime, and didn't blame Salazar's family for wanting him executed.
Rogers was allegedly upset over the failure of his marriage and business when he picked Salazar at random, and killed her while he was drunk.
