There is a small wildfire burning in Rye.
Red Cross officials confirm to 11 News the wildfire sparked around 2 a.m. and has burned about five acres on 3R Road. The fire was 60 percent contained by 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Fire crews from Beulah, Pueblo and Rye are responding. There are no structures being threatened and no evacuations.
The American Red Cross Pikes Peak Chapter Southeast Branch sent teams of volunteers to the area on Monday.
The volunteers will provide shelter for at least 50 responding fire fighters as well as dinner meals tonight and breakfast meals Tuesday morning.
The Red Cross released the following tips for southern Colorado residents:
-Learn about wild fire risks in your area.
-Talk with members of your household about wild fires –how to prevent them and what to do if one occurs.
-Post emergency phone numbers by every phone in your home.
-Make sure driveway entrances and your house number or address are clearly marked.
-Identify and maintain an adequate water source outside your home, such as a small pond, cistern, well or swimming pool.
-Select building materials and plants that can help resist fire.
-Regularly clean roofs and gutters.
