COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- An El Paso County sheriff's detective faces several charges following a chase and confrontation late last month.

Authorities say major crimes detective Jerald Day was subdued by a shot with a sponge round and a police dog on Feb. 28. Day faces two counts of felony menacing, prohibited use of a weapon, vehicular eluding, resisting arrest, reckless driving and driving under the influence.

El Paso County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene says Day is on paid suspension.

Douglas County sheriff's spokeswoman Cocha Heyden said Friday that the confrontation in a Franktown parking lot happened after Day refused a deputy's attempt to pull him over. Day reportedly was suicidal. A message left at a number listed for Day was not immediately returned and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.
