Drought

By: Associated Press

Researchers randomly surveyed about 35-hundred farmers.

The survey found just 25 percent indicated they would more than
likely leave agriculture if the drought persists.

The survey also found irrigators hardest hit. Seventy percent of
farmers surveyed said they get water from irrigation districts, but
many reported getting less than their average share -- or none at
all.

The drought led 30 percent of irrigators to abandon alfalfa and
corn last summer.

Thirteen percent of farmers say they'll change crops if dry
weather continues, and 19 percent say they've supplemented lost
income with off-farm jobs.
