About 90 soldiers are probably enjoying a home cooked dinner right now. They returned home early Monday afternoon after spending 15 months in Iraq.
These troops are the last ones to come home from 3rd Brigade Combat Team.
Outside the Mountain Post, a few kids played hooky, so they can be the first to say "welcome home" to their hero. They waited Sergeant First Class Troy Cournoyer to be bussed through the front gate.
A few minutes later, inside the Fort Carson gym, they all filed in. Cournoyer is among those in uniform. His dad flew in from Rhode Island. "Troy has been in the service for 12 years and I've never seen him come home, so I decided to come. I had tears in my eyes when they came in and I'm not a cry baby," said Denis Cournoyer.
"It's been a long deployment. I’m glad he's home,” cried Laura Cournoyer, the troop’s wife.
"This is the happy feeling of seeing my family after a long 15-month deployment," said the Sgt.
All 3,800 soldiers from the 3rd BCT are now home.
