A Colorado Springs non-profit organization has decided to install a new solar panel system on its roof to save money and energy.

Crews began installing solar panels at the IBEW Local Union 113 building at 2150 Naegele Road this week.

It will be one of the largest solar systems in Colorado Springs.

The panels are expected to replace 78% of the electricity being used at the facility.

The union expects to save about $200,000 on utility costs during the 25-year life of the system. They will also receive a rebate from Colorado Springs Utilities.

"We believe this is going to be a growth industry even this year with the economy the way it is," said Local 113 President Charles Johnson.

Astralux Power Systems of Boulder designed the solar system. The CEO of the design team hopes more businesses and homeowners will take advantage of the incentives being offered to lower the installation cost.
