Community Covenants

Many people are choosing to put drought-resistant plants in their yards.

In some cases, that may be against their community covenant rules.

Some communities have particular landscaping rules to follow.

One Briargate community, for example, has a rule requiring homeowners to plant sod in between the street and the sidewalk.

At least a few people would rather see rocks or xeriscape, than a brown lawn.

While that's a violation of the rules, if the homeowner gets no complaints, the xeriscape can probably stay.

Some commuity covenants can be changed by getting a majority vote from homeowners.

If you want to play by the rules, find out how to change the ones you don't like.
