AMBER Alert Help

By: Associated Press

Colorado law enforcement officials hope computer equipment donated by a Boulder company will speed up the posting of AMBER Alert messages.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation will install software donated by NetDelivery Corporation.

It will allow officials to send out alerts to several agencies with the touch of one button.

Officials now issue the alerts through phone calls, emails and faxes. The alerts also are posted on 170 overhead highway signs and 2,700 lottery terminals.

A 1997 Justice Department study found that 74-percent of the children murdered by non-family members are killed within the first three hours of abduction.
