Stolen Amonium Nitrate

Law enforcement agencies across the country are being told to watch out for burglaries involving ammonium nitrate.

You many remember, just a couple of days ago, 450-pounds of the explosive agent was taken from castle concrete here in Colorado Springs.

Now we've learned, 800 pounds of the same stuff were stolen from a construction company near San Diego.

100 pounds have been recovered, but San Diego authorities haven't arrested anyone.

ATF agents don't know whether the two cases are related.

They tell us they're looking for similarities.

In 2002, 1,150 pounds of ammonium nitrate were stolen across the country. That same amount has been taken in the past 2 days.
