Kobe Bryant Case

By: Associated Press

A defense lawyer observing the Kobe Bryant case in Eagle County says Judge Frederick Gannett is striving to give both prosecutors and defense lawyers time to state their cases in a preliminary hearing.

The hearing for Bryant started last week and is scheduled to continue on Wednesday. Denver defense lawyer Scott Robinson says Gannett is working to be fair -- and not abrupt or peremptory.

Gannett shut down Bryant's preliminary last week when defense attorney Pamela Mackey questioned the sexual history of the woman accusing the 25-year-old Los Angeles Lakers guard of rape.

The hearing is to determine whether there will be a trial on the charge -- and Gannett is expected to issue a written ruling in the case.
