A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Sheriff's officials are seeking an arrest warrant on a charge of false reporting for a Marine suspected of staging his own disappearance to avoid duty.
Lance Corporal Lance Hering was reported missing by a friend who said Hering was injured in a hiking accident August 29th and disappeared before help could arrive. Sheriff's officials have arrested the friend, Steve Powers, on a false reporting charge.
The case could cause more problems for Hering, who received a deferred sentence after pleading guilty in a 2004 burglary.
Boulder County officials obtained an arrest warrant today for Hering for violating terms of that sentence, which required him to stay out of trouble for two years.
Hering is on authorized leave from the Marines but is due back at Camp Pendleton in California on Monday.
