A Pueblo police detective is on paid leave, after shooting a suspect he caught breaking into a home.

21 year old Frank Gonzales was shot twice in the stomach Tuesday night. He died shortly after midnight.

Police confronted him in a home near the Pueblo Country Club.

They say Gonzales had already broken into two other homes on the same street less that an hour earlier.

Detective Chris D'Amour fired the fatal shots.

Police had been looking for Gonzales and his friend, Mario Vigil for the last few days.

Both men were wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery Sunday. Vigil is still on the run.
