President Bush is using a Labor Day speech in Maryland to pay tribute to seafarers and farmers, and others who contribute to America's prosperity.
Bush used a speech to the International Seafarers' Union to press for permanent tax cuts. He also called for reducing dependence on foreign oil, partly by expanding nuclear power generation and making more use of corn-based ethanol fuels.
Bush also saluted those serving their country in the Coast Guard.
Bush was on a visit to Maryland's Paul Hall Center for Maritime Training and Education, an institute that claims the most Coast Guard-approved courses of any maritime school in the nation.
