More Lanes Open on I-70

After nearly two weeks of ongoing repair, two lanes in each direction of Interstate 70 are open again near Vail Satuday

Spring runoff and heavy rain created a large sinkhole in the westbound lanes of I-70, just east of Vail after washing out a culvert. The sinkhole completely shut down a 24 mile stretch of I-70 for about five days.

Highway officials say it will take another two weeks to complete all repairs and open the entire highway.

Near the Eisenhower Tunnel, westbound I-70 is still closed to heavy trucks as state crews check a culvert under the highway there for erosion.

Transportation officials say other culverts also are being
checked.
