Twenty-three-year-old Sergeant Michael E. Dooley of Pulaski, Virginia, died after two people pretending to need help for an ill friend opened fire.

The incident happened at a checkpoint in Al Asad, Iraq.

Dooley was assigned to the First Squadron, Third Armored Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Carson.

It was the eighth fatality suffered by the unit and the ninth for Fort Carson.
