Another soldier from Fort Carson's 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment has died in Iraq.
Officials at Fort Carson confirm the death, but have not yet released the soldier's name since his family has yet to be notified.
A military spokesman says around 10:45 local time Sunday night, the soldier was manning a checkpoint in western Iraq, near the Syrian border. A vehicle pulled up requesting medical help for one of the people inside.
As the soldier approached, the attackers opened fire. The Army is investigating the incident.
This is the 8th soldier from the 3rd ACR to be killed in Iraq.
