Jessica Garcia, 15, and her brother Jose Luis Cerrato, 11, left their mother's home in Avon on earlier this month, and arrived at their grandmother's Saturday morning.
Investigators originally believed the children were taken by their mother's boyfrined, Pedro Rodriguez, a convicted sex offender, but Jessica Garcia called Avon Police to report that she and her brother were safe. The teen told officers she left her mother's home because she missed her grandmother.
Garcia and her brother had spent most of their lives with their grandmother in Honduras. They had only lived with their mother in Avon for the last two years. The teen also told authorities that Garcia traveled with them as far as Texas, but he did not assault her or force her to leave her mother's home.
At this point, there are no plans to Garcia and her brother back to Avon because their immigration status cannot be verified.
