MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) -- Specialist Chris Sitton, who was assigned to the division's 710th Medical Support Battalion, was killed in the country's Kunar province when the supply convoy he was in detonated a bomb.

His mother, Judy Sitton, says the family is proud of Chris's accomplishments -- helping wounded soldiers and also giving medical treatment to children near his base.

Sitton graduated from Montrose High School in 2003 and enlisted in the Army after attending college for a semester. His family says he chose medic training because he loved the field. His father, Steve Sitton, says Chris eventually wanted to go to college to become a physician's assistant and eventually go to medical school.
