The U-S Air Force Academy has released a new policy for handling sexual assault complaints that does not guarantee confidentiality. Brigadier General John A. Weida says assault information will be disclosed on a need-to-know basis, and that every effort will be made to protect victims' privacy.
The policy is consistent with Air Force criminal practices. Weida says those are different from civilian law enforcement procedures because of the importance the military places on a team concept.
Weida says Air Force members have a responsibility to take care of each other, meaning rape victims need to get proper care across the board and rapists will not be tolerated.
