Regional affiliates of bankrupt United Airlines are cutting wages and furloughing workers to meet demands for deep cost reductions. The dominant carrier at Denver International Airport filed for bankruptcy in December.
United has told its three United Express carriers that they will be replaced with a competitor if they don't lower costs enough. United has the ability to cancel contracts under bankruptcy court protection.
Air Wisconsin Airlines flies from Denver to cities such as Montrose and Grand Junction. It was forced to win wage cuts and work-rule changes from its pilots to continue their partnership.
SkyWest Airlines offers United Express flights out of Denver. Officials say the airline is close to landing a new contract.
