Snow and rain will continue to taper from north. Main roads should stay just wet overnight and through early Thursday. Secondary roads and any bridges and overpasses away from city warmth will be icy, so be careful. Locally dense fog will be an issue for the early morning too. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has rejected a demand by environmentalists to list the Canada lynx as an endangered species in the lower 48 states.
The decision means the cats with snowshoe-like paws will remain listed as threatened -- a less-protected designation. The decision was denounced by environmentalists. Mike Leahy of Defenders of Wildlife says the lynx still are in big trouble -- even though there has been some progress in the northern Rockies and Colorado.
The group had won a court-ordered review of the government's decision against giving the animal endangered species status. Leahy
says no decision had been made on whether to challenge the decision.
