Smoking Ban Leads To Decrease in Heart Attacks
The C.D.C. says they have studied neighboring areas to Pueblo without smoking bans and they haven't seen those same health benefits, which is another clear sign for researchers that the ban is responsible for the decrease in heart attacks.

While this "smoke free miracle" has been going on I wonder how many stents the local cardiologists have inserted? I would think the answer might lie here.

This isn't the first study that shows just how unhealthy exposure to secondhand smoke really is. It's about time that politicians listened to doctors and scientists and banned smoking from all public areas and all workplaces. Colorado has done a reasonably good job in this area, while other states have unfortunately done very little. It's too bad that big tobacco still has so much influence in some areas of the country in 2009.

I am a non smoker and I dont understand why smokers think they have the right to make me smell, get congested and not breath.I go out a lot more now that it is a non smoking enviroment.I enjoy going out but could not do so when it was filled with smoke. So smokers get over yourselves

This article is just more propaganda designed to make it appear that so called "tobacco control" is having a positive effect on something.First of all Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) does not cause heart attacks in non-smokers.(Stanford)Secondly,other causes can not be ruled out.Thirdly, everywhere else that I can recall that this ploy was tried in,did not experience this.California-up 6%,New York-flat (no meaningful increase/decrease),Florida-the same,Italy up a couple of %.And then there is Scotland where they have tried this nonsense twice(Pell),only to have it shown that the decreases in heart attacks were less than before smoking bans.Scotland's heart attack rate has since risen but you won't hear so called "tobacco control" crowing over this.

http://tobaccoanalysis.blogspot.com/2006/09/pueblo-study-concludes-that-smoking.html exposes the shoddy basis of this sort of research. Another good example is seen in the BMJ’s Responses to Helena: over a dozen significant questions and defects are simply ignored by the authors: http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/eletters/bmj.38055.715683.55v1 If these studies were legitimate their researchers would defend their work and answer questions. The fact that there was no smoker/nonsmoker separation should raise an INSTANT red flag: when was the last time that anyone ever had a heart attack where their smoking status wasn't officially noted? What possible reason could there be for ignoring such basic data? Simple: if the data had been included then the propaganda conclusion that bans protect nonsmokers would have been invalidated and the grant money would have disappeared. Michael J. This story contains useless propaganda being spread by people who do not care so much about health but taking away rights from Americans. If we outlaw alcohol we would also see a drop in DUI related deaths and other health issues. If we ban fast food we would see a drop in obesity in AMerica too. SO does the country continue on its path to communism in the name of health? We all know that smoking is bad...so why beat it to death other than to further create mass hysteria on the doubtful at best accusations of second hand smoke. Why any youth today join the military to fight is beyond me. There is almost nothing in this country worth fighting for these days. I say let the non smokers and drinkers fight the next war. AMericans are being led to slaughter by right wingers by their stupid noses. Whats next after tobacco? Obviously alcohol then what? I can tell you right now...religion. Wake up America...its not about health.
