Colorado's Interstate 70 remains closed today over a 24 mile stretch after a sinkhole opened up in one of the west bound lanes just east of Vail Sunday.

Heavy rain and melting snow caused flooding in the area Sunday afternoon, which washed out a culvert and opened up the 20 foot wide sinkhole.

Crews working to repair the road now think the road will be able to be opened in the next day or so. But, the Department of Transportation says they don't know exactly how long it will take.

But, for now, drivers are being forced to take a 54 mile detour through Leadville.

In east Vail Valley, hundreds of evacuees are back home tonight. Massive overflow from Gore Creek threated to flood several hundred homes.
