The post office is back in business Thursday afternoon after a scare that evacuated all employees and shut down service for about three hours.

Ron Perry of the United States Postal Service says at 8:33 a.m. on Thursday a customer noticed an abandoned bag sitting outside the post office at Montebello and Academy on the sidewalk.

Postal employees investigated and determined the package to be suspicious and called police.

Police arrived three minutes later and called the bomb squad. The bomb squad opened the bag and determined the contents were non-threatening. The post office reopened at 11:33 a.m. for business.
