District 70's superintendent made his first appearance in a Pueblo courtroom this morning, on several felony counts.
Dr. Stuart Yager was arrested about two weeks ago after an accident that left his young daughter and another girl injured. Authorities say the superintendent was drunk at the time of the accident.
Yager appeared in court today, along with his wife and his attorney. In a hearing that laster less than five minutes, a new court date was set.
According to the arrest affadavit, Dr. Yager told investigators he had been drinking, but his attorney denies that claim.
Yager is charged with driving under the influence, child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, vehicular assault and failure to report an accident. His 11 year old daughter and her friend were thrown from the back of a pick up truck Yager was driving. And the Sheriff's Department says, though both girls were injured and needed medical care, Yager did not take them to the hospital. Instead, they add, he dropped them off at home.
Yager was found several hours later and taken to jail.
The D-70 school board put Dr. Yager on administrative leave with pay. They will meet a week from Friday to decide whether he will be let go permanently.
