Two Colorado families were brought together following a tragedy.
Melody Connett's daughter, Jill was killed in a car accident in May of 2003. Melody says Jill always told her she wanted to be an organ donor.
"She was a giving person. This is not out of her character," said Melody Connett.
Her liver was the only organ that could be donated and it went to a Colorado Springs woman.
"A week and a half before that my doctor told me he probably won't see me again because my liver was so bad," said Carole Pirri, organ donor recipient.
Carole Pirri waited eight years for a successful match.
"They rushed me into the operating room. They had a liver for me. My daughter flew in from Washington D.C. My family was so ecstatic. I was going to be healthy again," said Carole Pirri.
Six months later, Melody reached out to the woman who's life was saved. But, Carole needed more time.
"I couldn't write to her. Here my family was so ecstatic about me being healthy and their family was devastated about losing their only child," said Carole Pirri.
Carole and Melody finally met last year. They now speak publicly about the importance of becoming an organ donor.
"It helps me see something good come from something so bad," said Melody Connett.
About two-third of Colorado drivers are organ donors, according to Organ Alliance. But, Melody and Carole would like more people to put the notice on their driver's license and possibly save a life.
Melody and Carole will travel to Pasadena later this month for the Rose Bowl Parade. A floral portrait honoring Jill Connett will be mounted on the Donate Life Rose Bowl Float, "Stars of Life," on January 1, 2009.
