For years, JonBenet's parents were under an umbrella of suspicion, but they claimed their 6-year-old daughter was killed by an intruder, which is exactly what 2 investigators from Colorado Springs have been saying all along. "The biggest thing was foreign DNA. The foreign DNA was under her finger nails and in her panties that didn't watch anybody in the Ramsey family," John San Agustin said. He, along with Ollie Gray were hired by the Ramsey family and were working pro bono for the past 7 years… 7 years of searching for who did it. "It's a roller coaster. You're elated, but then you’re quietly pleased with everything that's happening," Gray said.
On Wednesday, John Carr was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand in connection with the murder of JonBenet. Some of the evidence from the investigation of San Agustin and Gray may have led to the arrest.
We're told Patsy knew about this suspect before she died in June from ovarian cancer. This latest development could put to rest all the suspicions surrounding the family, but the two investigators don't think that'll be the case. San Agustin said, "I still think there is doubt...everyone said they had something to do with it. I still think there is a cloud looming…that people think they had someone do it for them."
Another investigator here in El Paso County, Lou Smit was working for the Boulder D.A.’s office. He always believed JonBenet's killer would be caught. "The killer… he took something in, he took something out and that's all the further I can go."
It's a surprise break in one of the nation's most notorious murders. A murder that happened in Boulder, with investigators working the case in Colorado Springs and an arrest thousands of miles away in Thailand. “Bottom line is, they’ve been through a living hell, the Ramsey family. This is good news," said San Agustin.
The suspect will be brought back to the U.S. this weekend. The Boulder D.A.’s office will release more about John Karr at a news conference scheduled for Thursday, 10am. Tune into KKTV 11 News for live coverage.
