More than 2,000 Denver-area residents have helped set a national record for recycling computers. Officials from Dell collected 200 tons of unwanted computers and equipment during a one-day recycling event last weekend.

Some of the technology will be donated to local nonprofit organizations. The rest of it will be recycled. More than 40 community volunteers worked all day and into the night to collect equipment including desktop computers, monitors and printers.

Dell says the Denver collection shattered any existing national record for tonnage at a one-day event. Dell plans to extend its recycling tour through July 12th. The company will host free recycling events in ten additional cities.
