A billboard plastered up at a busy Colorado Springs intersection is sparking up some controversy.

It's a message posted by the The Colorado Coalition of Reason.

The billboard is located on Academy Blvd. near Woodmen Rd. It says, Imagine No Religion.

"Why is that up?" said Jared Even who works across the street from the billboard.

"I'm okay with it," said Cory Marshbanks who also works across the street from the billboard.

It's a message that might actually be softer compared to some of the billboards the Colorado Coalition of Reason put up in Denver that say, Don't Believe In God? You Are Not Alone.

"It's kind of an in your face message," said Dr. Del Tackett who is the Focus On The Family Senior Vice President.

Freethinkers and Atheist groups say they're not looking to stir up a fight or upset those of strong faith.

Gary Betchan who is a Freethinker and business owner says the billboards are up to bring like-minded people together. "Atheists tend to be people who have come to a strong conclusion that there is no God. I really don't care if there's a God or not," said Betchan.

"It definitely stirs up a lot of eyes up to the sign," said Marshbanks.

But to some it carries a punch. "It just really hurts," said Even.

"Those who do not believe in God are in a small minority in America, but they have that right," said Dr. Tackett.

There's only one billboard of its kind in Colorado Springs. There are ten up in Denver. All eleven billboards cost the group $5,000. A group of Boulder Atheists said one billboard company in Northern Colorado refused to put up the sign.

"I know it does cause a lot of controversy with some people because of their beliefs, but in the U.S., freedom of speech," said Marshbanks.

"With-out religion it doesn't give you any hope, any faith, anything to live for," said Even.

Great postings here– It never ceases to amaze me of the delusions of religious people– but thats their choice– I just wish they'd keep their morals and beliefs to themselves– And while we at it– can we get "In God We Trust" off our money for once and for all? Now THATS offensive to me! I welcome this billboard. Long live free speech!

I'd rather imagine a world without Atheists. I am offended by the billboards and I'm sorry my children have to see them when we drive to town - which is less and less everyday.
