Hundreds of people turned out for Pueblo's two community Thanksgiving dinners at the Salvation Army and the Union Depot.
"We have prepared over 75 turkeys, we have prepared nearly 100 pounds of potatoes, to meet the needs of this community here in Pueblo," says Keith Colvin, Wayside Cross Mission.
Inside the Union Depot, the smells of the mouth-watering traditional feast filled the air.
And one of the many volunteers serving up the free meals, is six year old Lucas Torrez.
"I just want their lives to be better," says Torrez.
Pueblo County fire chief Chris Riley and his 14-year-old daughter Madeline also shared that holiday spirit.
"We figured we'd start Thanksgiving off by serving people and giving back to the community," says Chief Riley.
Members of the Wayside Cross Rescue Mission cooked all of the delicious food.
"We believe with all of our hearts that when people come together over a meal, it changes the atmosphere, it changes the attitude," says Colvin.
Before grabbing that second helping of pie, folks shared what they were most thankful for.
"I'm thankful for my family and friends and the shelter that I have," says Godfrey Moak, Pueblo.
"I'm thankful today for all the food that we have and my family," says Xavier Johnson, Pueblo.
"I'm thankful for this day, and I'm also thankful for God giving me a good, caring, big heart," says Aaliyah Reynolds, 9, Pueblo.
And everyone there agrees, they're thankful for a wonderful way to start off the holiday season.
