Democrats are calling a failed Republican attempt to tie an estate-tax cut to a minimum wage increase "political blackmail."

Speaking in the Democrats' weekly radio address, Colorado Senator Ken Salazar says "Working Americans deserve a raise, but congressional Republicans keep giving them political tricks."

On Thursday, the Senate rejected legislation that would have cut estate taxes and raised the hourly minimum wage to seven dollars and 25 cents from five dollars and 15 cents. It would have been the first federal minimum wage increase in nearly a decade.
