Former Jefferson County sheriff Russ Cook has died at the age of 59.

The sheriff's office says he was found at his home Friday. No foul play is suspected.

Cook resigned under pressure in 2003 after six months on the job as he struggled with alcoholism. Earlier this year, he was arrested after being accused of stalking a former girlfriend in Colorado Springs.

Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Jim Shires says Cook was found after a relative asked deputies to check on him because he hadn't been seen or heard from him in several days.

Cook served as Golden's police chief before being elected sheriff.
