Attorney General Ken Salazar is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review a Colorado Supreme Court decision that overturned two death penalty sentences.
The state supreme court overturned the death sentences of George Woldt and Francisco Martinez Junior because their sentences were determined by judges and not juries.
Salazar says the two men are murderers and they should receive the appropriate sentence.
The decision to overturn the sentences was prompted by a U-S Supreme Court ruling that says juries and not judges must decide death penalties.
Salazar says there are several conflicting state and federal court applications of the high court's that must be clarified.
