DENVER (AP) -- An 81-year-old Denver man faces charges of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl who was in his care.

The district attorney's office said Tuesday it filed five counts against Andres Torrez, including sexual assault on a child, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse.

Torrez was being held on $50,000 bail. His first court appearance was scheduled for Thursday.

It wasn't known if he had an attorney. The Denver jail doesn't record that information or relay messages to inmates.

Prosecutors declined to comment on the relationship between Torrez and the child.

Okay, how many rational people would leave a 5 year child with an 81 year old. There has to be more than a single incident in order for a pattern to occur. Watch before you critize. People do not begin offending at 81. Chris, the key word here is "person in a position of trust". This was not an act committed by a stranger. I suspect the whole story will be more concerning and sad.

Sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse involves a history of sexual abuse. This pedophile should be registered as a sex offender and is why I have questioned the agency that is responsible for holding him accountable. I do not believe he should have been associated with a minor. I am curious why they have not reported the relationship between the child and offender.
