Prison Worker Death Lawsuit

By: Associated Press
Updated: Wed 9:43 PM, May 21, 2003

The parents of a Colorado state prison worker who was beaten to death last year by an inmate have notified the state they plan a lawsuit.

Bob and Dolores Autobee have given their notice to Attorney
General Ken Salazar about the pending legal action.

They are alleging that poor staffing levels and inadequate
security contributed to the death last October of their son Eric
Autobee.

They also claim the man convicted in the fatal assault -- Edward
Montour Junior -- was improperly classified.

Authorities say Montour already was in prison for killing his
infant daughter when he used a four-foot-long soup ladle to beat
the 23-year-old Autobee to death.
