Authorities in Colorado are stepping up their behind-the-scenes security after federal officials raised the security alert one notch -- but they say most Coloradans won't notice any changes for this holiday weekend.

However Colorado homeland security chief Sue Mencer says the
public should remain alert -- because that now is a way of life.

Federal counterterrorism authorities called for increased
security nationwide by raising the security alert to ``high'' --
but have provided few specifics on where al-Qaida could strike
inside the country.

Colorado officials have said they have not been warned of a
specific target for terrorists in the state.

Mencer says no additional security will be involved at
campgrounds and Boulder officials say they don't have plans for
more security for Monday's Bolder Boulder 10-kilometer race.

Security at airports has been increased -- with more searches
planned.
